Understanding Project "Difficulty"

Science Buddies ranks each project on a scale of one to ten, with one being the easiest and ten being the hardest.

What Number Is Right for You?

The correct level of difficulty depends on a number of things:

  • Your grade in school
  • How many science and math classes you have taken
  • How well you do in science and math
  • How much help you can get from teachers, parents, and friends

For an average student, the following table is a good guideline:

Difficulty:  1   2   3   4   5   6   7   8   9   10 
  Grades K-5  
    Grades 6-8  
    Grades 9-12
 
  Easy Hard

Thus, for a typical student in grades 6 - 8, an easy project would be a 4 and a challenging project would be a 7. Try an easier project if you have a weak background in science, or a harder one if you are especially good.
