Tenth Annual Science Buddies Engineering Challenge Revealed
K-12 students worldwide are invited to explore engineering with the 2024 Science Buddies Engineering Challenge—The Rubber Band Car Challenge
The Science Buddies Engineering Challenge
Every year, from February to March, teams of students around the world work to solve a fun engineering challenge that lets them "try" engineering and builds confidence in using the engineering design process.
2024 Rubber Band Car Challenge
The 2024 Rubber Band Car Challenge has students build a car that is moved forward by a rubber band. Students will brainstorm, test, and iterate, using simple materials to make a car that can travel as far as possible.
The annual challenge empowers students to use the engineering design process to build a solution that balances materials and design elements for the challenge. Lesson plans, student guides, and video resources provide age-appropriate frameworks to support K-12 teachers and students at all experience levels.
"We are excited to announce this year's Rubber Band Car Engineering Challenge," said Tina Lanese, President of Science Buddies. "Every year, we are impressed by the creative approaches students take to solve the challenge. It is inspiring to see students of all ages practicing problem solving and engineering design. These are our future engineers at work!"
The challenge opens at the start of Engineers Week. The submission window for the 2024 Science Buddies Engineering Challenge is Feb 18-March 18.
Empowering STEM Learning
Now in its tenth year, the Science Buddies Engineering Challenge is a proven program with global reach that has already introduced more than 50,000 students to engineering.
